E-MTB Technical Guide

Race categories, drive-unit homologation, professional bike inspection and technical compliance for the proposed Mt Stromlo eMTB Race Day. For both E-XCO and E-XCE, eBike Lab provides bike inspections; official full inspection applies only to ELITE (UCI Drive Units). SL, OPEN and OPEN PLUS are inspected to verify the 25 km/h motor-assistance cut-off.

Status

Practical reference based on four supplied documents.

Original reference document

Read the complete supplied MT Stromlo E-MTB Race and Technical Guide 2026, including its original page layout.

This guide consolidates the E-MTB and EPAC-specific content found in the supplied 2026 UCI World Championships technical guide and supplied drive-unit documents. It also records the proposed race categories and eBike Lab inspection controls.

PriorityDocument or controlPractical effect
1Current UCI Regulations, including Arts. 1.3.010bis, 1.3.006 and 1.3.002Defines whether the bicycle and equipment may be used.
2Current UCI List of Approved EPAC Drive UnitsConfirms homologated model, development ID, software and approval date.
3Event technical guide and official communiquésSets registration, inspection times, locations and event procedure.
4Supplemental power-category lists supplied with this packUseful screening reference only; not proof of UCI homologation.

EPAC

Only EPACs within UCI Article 1.3.010bis are authorised in UCI E-Mountain Bike events under Article 4.8.001.

Homologation

From 1 January 2025, new EPAC drive units used by licence holders in UCI E-MTB events must pass the UCI approval process.

Approval scope

The official list records manufacturer or brand, model, development ID, software version and approval date.

The proposed system separates lightweight machines, standard high-power E-MTBs, unrestricted high-performance machines and officially homologated UCI competition drive units. Final Mt Stromlo thresholds remain subject to technical consultation and applicable Australian requirements.

CategoryTechnical thresholdEligibility
SL — Lightweight E-MTBLess than 60 Nm maximum torqueLightweight e-bikes producing less than 60 Nm of torque.

Mechanic verification rule

  • Do not verify by marketing name alone. Record the exact drive-unit model, development ID and installed software.
  • Where a model has multiple permitted software versions, the installed version must be one explicitly shown in the current list.
  • Check for evidence of tampering, aftermarket tuning, region or speed modifications, or non-approved firmware.

eBike Lab is responsible for bike inspections. Official full inspection, using the UCI European technical standard as a reference — including wheel measurements and software inspection — applies only to ELITE (UCI Drive Units). SL, OPEN and OPEN PLUS will be inspected to verify that motor assistance cuts off at 25 km/h. This does not limit the bike’s speed when riding without motor assistance or imply UCI sanctioning or certification.

The table and workflow below retain the supplied source procedures for reference. They do not impose full inspection on SL, OPEN or OPEN PLUS. The original PDF is unchanged and may not reflect this event-specific scope update.

Failure consequence in the supplied UCI event guide: failure to submit its questionnaire, non-compliance with referenced UCI Regulations, or failure to report for inspection results in refusal of participation or disqualification. Mt Stromlo procedures will be confirmed in its final event technical guide.

Reference edition prepared from the four supplied documents. Final Mt Stromlo categories, inspection procedures, eligibility rules and event timings will be published separately after technical consultation.
