Four performance classes

A proposed category system for the E-XCO race, designed to create closer, technically credible racing across different E-MTB platforms. The top 8 E-XCO finishers qualify for the E-XCE. Not sure about your category? A quick guide below shows the drive units named in each class.

Continuous rating is not peak power

All participating bikes must comply with applicable Australian requirements, including a maximum continuous rated motor power of 250 W and the applicable assisted-speed limit. Continuous rated power is distinct from maximum or peak power used for category classification.

SL

Under 60 Nm

Lightweight E-MTB platforms producing less than 60 Nm of torque.

OPEN

Up to 750 W maximum power

Standard and race-focused E-MTB platforms producing no more than 750 W of maximum motor power.

OPEN PLUS

Above 750 W maximum power

Higher-performance E-MTB platforms producing more than 750 W of maximum motor power.

ELITE (UCI Drive Units)

Approved competition systems

The competition category for bikes equipped with eligible UCI-approved drive units.

These categories are proposed for the inaugural test event. Final thresholds, eligibility requirements and class definitions will be confirmed after technical consultation, course testing and review of the regulations applicable on the event date.

Full inspection: ELITE only

eBike Lab is responsible for bike inspections. Official full inspection, using the UCI European technical standard as a reference — including wheel measurements and software inspection — applies only to ELITE (UCI Drive Units). SL, OPEN and OPEN PLUS will be inspected to verify that motor assistance cuts off at 25 km/h. This does not limit the bike’s speed when riding without motor assistance or imply UCI sanctioning or certification.
